Board Dynamics
No matter how well a board of directors functions, there is always room for improvement. In fact, it is actually the best performing boards that search the hardest for ideas as to how they might enhance their effectiveness.
Our offering differs from the traditional survey style evaluations, and concentrates on good quality dialogue. We assist boards by utilising our expertise in guiding conversations, listening carefully to what is being said and importantly, to what is not being said. From this, we provide independent insights and stimulus, all of which is grounded in comprehensive research. This process enables boards to ‘advance their agenda’ in a structured and insightful manner.
Whilst we shy away from the title of being experts in governance, we look at a broad range of themes relevant to board directors. These include the diversity of board composition, roles and responsibilities, culture, team dynamics, engagement between the board and senior leadership, board processes and structure. We provide global ‘best practice’ examples, however our philosophy is centred on assisting boards identify and develop what works best for them: their own best practice.
Our methodology
We offer a customised approach based on the needs of our clients. Our approach is grounded in a deep understanding of how organisations work, and is based around the following methodology:

Following a briefing meeting (usually with the Chair), we develop a customised approach to suit the specific needs of your board. |
We lead guided conversations with each board member (and other key stakeholders of the board, if appropriate) on a one-to-one basis. This enables us to cover a broad range of topics, and in doing so, we gather a huge volume of data. We believe the richness of perspective we are able to glean from our clients, is down to the quality of the conversation we guide. |
Through our conversations, we gain a range on insights into how the board operates. We distil these into themes and research areas to investigate further. Our research capability is second to none, and we utilise this to provide context to the insights and themes we have developed through our conversations. The stimulus in our process comes from "joining the dots" helping a business see itself in an international context and understanding how other organisations tackle the same challenges. |
We pull our insights and research together into a presentation back to the board, which is designed to stimulate the debate. We pride ourselves on offering your board an independent (sometimes brutally independent) perspective, which seeks to "advance the agenda". |
We are passionate about leadership and helping organisations succeed. Our clients tell us that our Board Dynamics programme is an excellent mechanism for boards to advance and improve.
