Key aspects of the role will include the identification of the appropriate tool leading to establishment and effective running of the asset register and database, within the first year to eighteen months.  You will also bring your experience in influencing and building rapport with the senior executive team whilst developing the Property functions strategic plan and road map, for the short, medium and long term.  Rationalisation of the property portfolio whilst reviewing investment merits and as a consequence, delivering exceptional results, efficiency gains and cost savings are also key elements of the role which you will bring experience in.

The ideal candidate will bring the following skills and experience:

  • An acute understanding of the property arena ideally from an investment perspective; supported by a tertiary qualification in this profession
  • The ability to influence and work collaboratively across the senior executive and to the divisions is of paramount importance 
  • Strong experience in property management with experience in developing strategic plans, leading lease negotiations and rent renewals, asset registry setup and/database maintenance, forecasting, occupancy rates etc
  • Investment experience in this arena and experience in light manufacturing in the property capacity would also be of considerable benefit which would include previous management of a diverse property portfolio.

 Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for managing the operations of the company and for developing and achieving the annual operating plan. Managing a large team they will create business development activities, optimise revenue potential, operating income and develop strategies with the Senior Leadership Team that are aligned with the business. Creating and nurturing key relationships with DHB’s, government representatives, as well as other major customers, stakeholders and staff will be crucial to this role.

 To be considered for this unique opportunity you will have a strong empathy, understanding and curiosity towards people as well as be commercially focused and financially literate. You will have 5 – 10 years experience as either a COO or GM Operations in a like size company or division level responsibility in a $100+ million revenue company which is service based. A tertiary qualification is required, and a Masters in Management (or related area) is preferred. Ideally you must have a successful track record of operating a multi-site small unit operation with a decentralised management structure and large rostered workforce to be successful in this role. Experience in leading operations through major growth and change will help you excel in this role, as well as being bright, well educated and having strong analytical, budgeting and planning skills.

Established in 1925, the organisation owns 36 Hydro Schemes and two Wind Farms and services around 220,000 Kiwi households. However they are now entering a phase of building for the future and will require a different approach to risk and investment. Reporting to the GM Generation, the Manager – Major Projects will ensure the successful implementation of strategic and/or major generation projects to ensure TrustPower achieves desired business outcomes. They will work closely with the trading and finance teams to ensure that the projects are optimising commercial outcomes. The role scope includes supporting new wind generation development projects and developing through feasibility to implementation, and work in both New Zealand and Australia.

Exceptional leadership skills are called for alongside experience in heavy engineering or large project management experience. There is a preference for those bringing hydro/ wind generation industry experience. We are seeking someone with a practical understanding of relevant legislation, commercial and construction law, equally an effective negotiator and relationship manager. Strong financial and commercial acumen, a results orientation and a strong health and safety focus are essential. High on the list of personal attributes required are curiosity, high professional standards and strong people skills.

To be successful in this role you will likely be a team player with a drive and desire to win, balance street smarts with advanced financial analysis and modelling. You will be a strategic thinker, who will also bring strong leadership and communication skills and demonstrate a curiosity in understanding the links between business divisions. You will bring sufficient experience and credibility when interacting with the board and ideally an affinity with the energy sector, or at least an ability to learn quickly, most likely from a platform of experience in trading in a tangible commodity business.
