Their work covers electrical consulting and contracting services. The organisation employs more than 380 specialists across seven locations in New Zealand. The General Manager Consulting has full responsibility for the ElectroNet Consulting subsidiary. This role ensures the Consulting team delivers exceptional results for clients, grow their presence in the market, and embrace emerging technologies to set industry trends and improve processes. Leading a team of approximately 100 engineers, the GM translates group strategy into actionable plans, driving compliance, efficiency, and strong commercial discipline. In addition to leading the subsidiary, this role works closely with the CEO to provide broader enterprise-wide oversight.
The role is responsible for developing and executing strategy, ensuring operating plans and goals are delivered in accordance with approved budget, time frame, and overarching company objectives. The GM is responsible for nurturing and building enduring client relationships to grow market share in core segments while developing adjacent emerging markets, ultimately strengthening ElectroNet Consulting’s presence as a key player in the Australasia region and driving growth in new markets including the United Kingdom.
The GM must effectively communicate the strategic vision to the Consulting team and energise the staff to achieve company goals. People are at the core of the business - you will build a high performance and high engagement culture. This role develops and implements an annual HR plan, to ensure Consulting has the right capabilities and resource to deliver to work. You will also embed and champion a strong health & safety culture.
Skills and attributes
The ideal candidate will be a true leader, ideally from within the energy or adjacent sectors and with a demonstrable understanding of engineering consulting. You will bring strong commercial acumen along with people‑centered leadership, balancing both people and commercial outcomes. You possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to quickly build rapport within the organisation, and with external stakeholders to build a strong reputation across the industry. You will bring strong financial understanding, commercial nous and astute decision-making skills, taking into consideration risks and trade-offs. The role requires regular domestic travel given national footprint of the business, and trips to UK as required.
The role is ideally based in Christchurch.
