Sacha McMeeking

Head of School, Aotahi - School of Māori and Indigenous Studies

Sacha has a LLM Honours and brings a serial entrepreneur’s approach to working with and for Iwi Māori. From instigating United Nations proceedings to architecting a Māori social enterprise fund and leading commercial negotiations, she is known for solution-building that meets Iwi Māori aspirations. As the General Manager of Strategy and Influence with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, Sacha was responsible for government relations, public policy, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and inter-Iwi collaboration which included commercial opportunities.

In 2010, Sacha was awarded the Fulbright Harkness Fellowship for emerging and established leaders, which she used to develop kaupapa Māori asset management and tribal development tools (available at www.kaupapa.org). Until mid 2015, Sacha was the director of a boutique consultancy working with Iwi Māori in strategy development, kaupapa Māori asset management and innovation. In this capacity, she was a member of the establishment team for Te Pūtahitanga. Sacha was appointed head of Aotahi, the School of Māori and Indigenous Studies at the University of Canterbury in mid-2015.

She has worked predominantly with clients from the public, not-for-profit, and arts and culture sectors. She has led numerous searches within these sectors, including for CEO appointments and several board chair and non-executive director appointments. Renisa enjoys bringing a warm, empathetic stakeholder engagement style to her connections with clients and candidates alike.
